Finland awarded Patricia Kombo with a Climate Honours diploma to recognise and thank her for her climate work. Finland’s missions around the world are granting the diplomas to organisations and individuals who lead the way in combating climate change. Using the diploma, Finland wants to encourage discussion about climate issues and call attention to international actors working for a common future.
Finland believes in the importance of recognising work that is being done to find solutions to environmental issues. Climate Honours express gratitude and encouragement while focusing attention on climate actors.

Patricia Mumbua Kombo is a passionate environmentalist, a land champion, and the founder of the PaTree Initiative. ”I know education is essential for communities to make informed decisions to solve complex problems, and that’s why I have dedicated my energy to promoting environmental and climate literacy. I want to raise a generation of climate-conscious citizens. A generation that understands that they have a right to a liveable planet and a responsibility to make it liveable”, says Patricia Kombo.
“I dedicate this honour to young people across the world. May it always remind them that they deserve to have climate information. The joy of environmental protection is discovering that climate change is a solvable problem if we act.”

Working together is key
One country working alone cannot tackle the climate and environmental challenges the world faces today. The Climate Honours are not only a tribute to persistent work, but also a message about the importance of cooperation beyond borders.
“Young people have shown strong ownership in the climate agenda. Their tireless efforts should be recognized and inspire the decision-making in global platforms, such as UNEA-6. It is our duty to ensure that current and future generations can enjoy their right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment,” says Kai Mykkänen, Minister of Climate and the Environment of Finland.
Finland’s message is one of optimism and cooperation: “Change may seem inconceivable, but only until we act”. Every major challenge in history has seemed almost impossible, but only until people have started to take action.
Finnish Climate Collaboration
For climate action to have a greater impact, we need to share best practices and build partnerships. Finland has set up a website, www.untilweact.fi(Link to another website.), dedicated to Finnish Climate Cooperation. The site features examples of Finnish climate action: innovations, business cases, national measures, city initiatives and local action. The examples are there to spark interest in Finnish climate solutions, inspire new climate action and encourage new organisations and companies to work together.
