Junior secondary climate literacy program

In 2017, Kenya adopted a new curriculum, the Competency-based Curriculum (CBC) that replaced the 8-4-4 more theoretical system. The year 2023 marks the first cohort of students under the new program to enter junior secondary after sitting for their national exams. Subjects taught in Junior secondary school are English, Mathematics, Pre-technical studies, Kiswahili, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Business Studies, Agriculture, Religious Education, Health Education, Sports, Physical Education, and Life Skills Education.

CLIMATE LITERACY

The decades-long debate over climate change is unfairly impacting the world’s younger generation. In most African setups, the land remains a valuable asset that youth inherit from the older generation. However, in recent days, youths are not only inheriting the massive and unprecedented problem of climate change but also a massive amount of degraded landscapes. Without the right education on land restoration, youths have been left stranded, not knowing what to do with the unfortunate inheritance.
